Same-Day Care
Immediate Care in Berkeley Heights, NJ
Need to see a provider today? Sage Urgent Care offers walk-in immediate medical care for non-emergency conditions — illness, minor injury, testing, physicals — every day, 8 AM to 8 PM.
Immediate care, not the ER
"Immediate care" and "urgent care" mean the same thing in practice — same-day medical care for problems that aren't emergencies but can't wait for a primary care appointment. Some clinics use one name, some use the other. At Sage Urgent Care, we offer the full range of walk-in immediate care services that families and working adults need throughout the week.
Immediate care fills the gap between your primary doctor (who often can't see you the same day) and the emergency room (where you'll wait hours and pay thousands for problems that don't require ER resources). Most illnesses, injuries, and non-emergency conditions can be diagnosed and treated in a single same-day visit at urgent care — typically for the cost of a co-pay if you have insurance, or a few hundred dollars without.

How we handle it
- Walk-in evaluation. No appointment needed. Check in at the front desk — most patients are seen in 15 to 30 minutes.
- Focused exam. A provider takes a history, examines the affected area, and orders any tests that will inform treatment.
- On-site testing. Rapid strep, flu, COVID, RSV, mononucleosis, pregnancy, and urine analysis — all done in-house with results in 5 to 15 minutes.
- On-site digital X-ray. For suspected fractures, sprains that aren’t healing, foreign objects, or chest concerns. Images and a preliminary read the same visit.
- Treatment and prescriptions. We treat what we can on site, send prescriptions to your pharmacy when needed, and refer or escalate if a specialist or hospital visit is warranted.
- Clear next steps. You leave understanding what’s wrong, what to do about it, when to come back, and what symptoms would warrant the ER instead.
What happens at your visit
- Walk in. No appointment, no scheduling. Just stop by between 8 AM and 8 PM, 7 days a week.
- Quick registration. Photo ID, insurance card (if you have one), and a brief intake form. About 5 minutes.
- Provider visit. Most visits take 20 to 40 minutes from check-in to walking out. Complex visits with imaging may take an hour.
- Treatment same-visit. Stitches, splinting, IV fluids, breathing treatments, injections, and prescriptions all handled here.
- Documentation. Work or school notes, medical clearance letters, and copies of your visit summary provided as needed.

Immediate Care FAQs
Nothing — they’re the same thing. Some clinics use "immediate care," others use "urgent care." Both describe walk-in medical care for non-emergency conditions that need same-day attention.
Go to immediate care when you need to be seen the same day and your primary doctor isn’t available, or for conditions like injuries, infections with fever, or anything where waiting days would worsen the outcome. Use primary care for ongoing condition management, routine annual exams, and complex or chronic issues.
Go to the ER for chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of stroke, severe bleeding, head injury with confusion or loss of consciousness, severe abdominal pain, suspected poisoning, or anything life-threatening. Urgent care can handle most non-emergency illness and injury — if your concern needs hospital-level resources, we’ll tell you and arrange transfer.
No. Walk in any day from 8 AM to 8 PM. Most patients are seen within 30 minutes.
