Walk-In Lab Testing in Berkeley Heights, NJ
Same-day walk-in lab testing at Sage Urgent Care — rapid strep, flu, COVID, RSV, mono, pregnancy, urinalysis, and other point-of-care tests with results in minutes.
Point-of-care testing, results in minutes
Sage Urgent Care offers same-visit point-of-care lab testing for the most common conditions — strep throat, flu, COVID, RSV, mono, urinary tract infections, pregnancy, and more. Each test is done on site with results available before you leave, so diagnosis and treatment happen in a single visit instead of waiting days for an outside lab.
Note: we offer rapid point-of-care testing for the conditions listed below. For comprehensive blood panels (full lipid panels, hormone testing, extended infectious disease panels, etc.), your primary care provider or a dedicated lab like Quest or LabCorp is the right place. We can arrange referral for those when needed.

How we handle it
- Rapid strep test. Throat swab; results in 5 minutes. Most positive results lead to same-visit antibiotic prescription. Backup throat culture sent to lab when clinically appropriate.
- Rapid influenza test. Nasal swab; results in 10 minutes. Antiviral treatment (Tamiflu) prescribed same visit when within the 48-hour treatment window.
- Rapid COVID-19 test. Nasal swab; antigen test results in 15 minutes. PCR sent to lab when indicated (typically 24–48 hour turnaround).
- Rapid RSV test. Nasal swab; results in 10 minutes. Useful for children with significant respiratory symptoms.
- Rapid mononucleosis test. Finger stick; results in 10 minutes. Helpful for distinguishing mono from strep when symptoms overlap.
- Urinalysis. Urine dipstick checks for infection, blood, glucose, and other markers — results in 5 minutes.
- Pregnancy test. Urine HCG test; results in 5 minutes.
- Finger-stick blood tests. Hemoglobin (anemia screen) and glucose (blood sugar) from a finger-stick sample; results in 5 minutes.

Lab Testing FAQs
Rapid strep, flu A/B, COVID-19, RSV, mononucleosis, urinalysis, pregnancy, hemoglobin, and finger-stick glucose. All results in 5 to 15 minutes.
We don’t perform comprehensive blood draws for routine outpatient labs (lipid panel, CMP, thyroid, hormones, etc.). For those, see your primary care provider or a dedicated lab like Quest or LabCorp. We can provide a referral when needed.
Most of our point-of-care tests return results within 5 to 15 minutes. You’ll have your diagnosis and treatment plan before leaving.
Limited. We can test for some sexually transmitted infections through urine testing (chlamydia, gonorrhea) with results in 1–3 days through a reference lab. Comprehensive STD panels are better handled through a dedicated sexual health clinic or your primary care provider.
Yes — most patients come in with symptoms and the provider determines which tests are appropriate. If you want a specific test (for example, a pregnancy test or a strep test because someone in your household has it), let the provider know and they can order it directly.
Rapid tests are highly accurate for positive results but slightly less sensitive than lab-based PCR. For example, a positive rapid strep test is essentially definitive; a negative rapid strep in a patient with strong symptoms is often followed by a backup throat culture to be sure.
Most insurance plans cover rapid testing when it’s clinically indicated, with a co-pay. We’ll explain costs upfront for self-pay patients.
Yes. You can request that we fax or send your visit summary, including any test results, directly to your primary care provider.
Yes — PCR testing is available when clinically indicated. Results typically come back in 24 to 48 hours from our reference lab. Rapid antigen testing for same-visit results is also available.
